How to Choose the Right Laptop for School

Buying your first laptop for school can feel overwhelming — spec sheets are full of numbers that don’t mean much unless you already know what to look for.

For most schoolwork — writing papers, research, video calls, light coding or design — you don’t need the most powerful machine on the shelf. A few things matter more than raw power:

Battery life. If you’re moving between classes or the library, a laptop that lasts a full day without a charger is worth more than a slightly faster processor.

Weight and size. A 13–14 inch laptop is usually the sweet spot between a usable screen and something you don’t mind carrying around campus.

Storage. 256GB is fine for most students; if you work with large files (video, design), look for 512GB or more.
